Safeguarding Children and Young People


​Wragby Players recognises its duty of care towards children and young people who join our drama group. The group recognises that abuse can take many forms, whether it be physical, emotional, sexual or neglect. The group is committed to practice which protects children and young people from harm.

All members of the group accept and recognise their responsibilities to develop awareness of the issues which cause children and young people harm and we have an appointed Named Person responsible for recording any allegations or reported incidents.


The group believes that

  • ​the welfare of children and young people is paramount
  • ​all children and young people irrespective of age, culture, disability, ethnic origin, religious belief or sexual orientation have the the right to protection from abuse
  • ​all suspicions and allegations should be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately
  • ​we should all show respect to one another and behave accordingly​​​


The group will ensure that

  • all children and young people will be treated with equal respect and dignity
  • our duty of care to children and young people will always be put first
  • a balanced relationship based on mutual trust will be built which empowers children and young people to share in the decision making process
  • enthusiastic and constructive feedback will be given rather than negative criticism
  • bullying will not be accepted or condoned
  • all adult members of the group provide a positive role model for dealing with other people
  • action will be taken to stop any inappropriate verbal or physical behaviour
  • ​it keeps up to date with Health and Safety legislation
  • ​it stays informed of changes in legislation and policy relating to the safeguarding of children and young people
  • ​at least one member of the group working with children and young people will have a current Enhanced DBS certificate
  • ​it holds a register of every child and young person involved with the group and retain a contact name, telephone number and email address close at hand in case of emergency
  • ​in all situations, including those in which a case of concern arises from a disclosure, the details of any allegation or reported incident will be recorded by the Named Officer and a decision made as to the appropriate referral pathway. In all cases a comprehensive written record will be kept which details both the concerns and the rationale for any decisions made.

 

The committee of Wragby Players will be responsible for ensuring that the Safeguarding Policy is adhered to. The policy will be regularly monitored by the committee and will be subject to annual review.
